How the calculation works

In OBS, every source has a Source Transform — position (X, Y) and size (Width, Height) in pixels relative to your canvas. This calculator computes those values based on your canvas dimensions and the corner you choose.

A 20 px padding is applied from each edge to keep the facecam from sitting flush against the border. To apply the values in OBS, right-click your webcam source → Transform → Edit Transform and enter the Position and Size values shown below.

For a circular facecam, apply a Mask/Blend filter to your webcam source in OBS (Filter → Add → Mask/Blend, select a circular PNG mask). The position and size values remain the same.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I enter these values in OBS?

Right-click your webcam source in the Sources list → Transform → Edit Transform. Enter the Position X/Y and Size Width/Height shown by this calculator. Make sure 'Use canvas coordinates' is checked.

Which corner is best for gaming?

Top-right is the safest default for most games — the majority of in-game UIs (health bars, minimaps) avoid that corner. Bottom-left is a good alternative. Avoid bottom-right for games with minimaps (MOBAs, open-world RPGs).

What facecam size should I use?

For gaming, Small (320×180) or Medium (480×270) keeps the game visible. Just Chatting streams typically use Large (640×360) or larger — viewers are there to watch you, not a game.

Does this work for 1440p or 4K canvases?

Yes — select your canvas size from the dropdown and the calculator scales all values accordingly. The output bitrate in OBS is separate from canvas size.

How do I make my facecam a circle in OBS?

Add a Mask/Blend filter to your webcam source, set the type to 'Image' and use a white circle on a black background PNG as the mask. You can find free circular masks by searching 'OBS circle webcam mask PNG'.

What webcam resolution should I stream at?

1280×720 at 30fps is the standard for streaming — higher resolutions rarely make a visible difference once your facecam is displayed at 480×270 or smaller on screen. If your webcam supports 1080p60 and your GPU can handle the additional load, it provides a sharper image with more crop flexibility.

Should my facecam always be visible?

For most content types, yes — viewer retention measurably improves when a facecam is present, especially for Just Chatting, reaction, and multiplayer game streams. For competitive FPS or strategy games where the corner matters for gameplay, toggling the facecam off during key moments is acceptable.

How do I add a border or frame to my facecam in OBS?

Add an Image source to your scene, sized to match your facecam and positioned in the same spot. Create a PNG in any design tool with a transparent center and a colored border. In OBS's Sources list, place the frame image above the webcam source — sources render bottom-to-top, so the frame overlays on top.
