How the calculation works
Twitch bits have a fixed streamer payout of $0.01 per bit — regardless of which pack the viewer bought. Viewers pay a premium: a 100-bit pack costs $1.40, so the viewer pays 40% more than you receive.
For tips and donations, neither Streamlabs nor StreamElements charges a platform fee. The only deductions are standard payment processor fees: Stripe and PayPal both charge 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. Smaller donations have a higher effective fee rate because of the fixed $0.30 charge.
Frequently asked questions
Do Streamlabs or StreamElements take a cut of my tips?
No — both platforms charge 0% on tips. You only pay the payment processor fee (Stripe or PayPal: 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction). That's it.
Why does Twitch pay $0.01 per bit when viewers pay more?
Twitch takes a cut of the bit purchase as their platform fee. Viewers pay between $0.0123 and $0.0140 per bit depending on pack size; streamers always receive exactly $0.01.
Are mobile bit purchases more expensive?
Yes — iOS and Android in-app purchases add roughly 30% due to Apple/Google store fees. Viewers who already hold bits in their account don't pay any extra to cheer.
What's the best value bits pack for viewers?
Larger packs have a lower cost per bit. The 25,000-bit pack ($308) costs ~$0.0123/bit, while the 100-bit pack ($1.40) costs $0.0140/bit. The difference is small — streamers still get $0.01 regardless.
