Twitch calculates your emote slot count using a sub points system:
- Tier 1 subscription = 1 sub point
- Tier 2 subscription = 2 sub points
- Tier 3 subscription = 6 sub points
Affiliates start with 1 subscriber emote slot. Partners begin with 5 slots and unlock additional ones as their sub point total grows — up to 50 total.
Emote slots are based on active subs, not total all-time subscribers. The count reflects your current paying subscribers only.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I see my current sub counts by tier?
In your Twitch Creator Dashboard, go to Revenue → Subscribers. You'll see your active subscriber breakdown by tier, which you can plug directly into this calculator.
Do Twitch Prime / Amazon Prime subs count?
Yes — Prime subs count as Tier 1 subscriptions and contribute 1 sub point each. They're included in your active Tier 1 subscriber count.
Do gift subs count toward emote slots?
Yes — gifted subs count as active subscriptions for the duration they're active. A gifted Tier 1 sub = 1 sub point, same as any other Tier 1 sub.
Can I have more than the listed max emote slots?
50 emote slots is the standard Partner maximum. Twitch has occasionally given additional slots to channels through special programs, but 50 is the public cap.
Do sub points change when subs expire?
Yes — when a subscriber's subscription lapses, those sub points are removed. Your emote slot count is always calculated from your current active subscriber count.
How many emote slots does a Twitch Affiliate start with?
Affiliates start with 1 emote slot. Additional slots unlock as your active subscriber count grows: 2 slots at 15 subs, 3 slots at 25 subs, 4 slots at 35 subs, and 5 slots at 50 subs. Partners start with 5 slots and can unlock up to 50.
What sizes do Twitch emotes need to be?
Twitch requires three sizes: 28×28 px, 56×56 px, and 112×112 px. All must be PNG format under 1 MB. For animated emotes (Partners and up to 5 animated for Affiliates), Twitch accepts WEBP or APNG format.
Can Twitch Affiliates have animated emotes?
Yes — Twitch added animated emote support for Affiliates. Affiliates can have up to 5 animated emote slots depending on subscriber count, using the same sub point thresholds as static slots. The emote must be uploaded as WEBP or APNG.
